Let’s start with what’s the same: whichever plan you choose, you’ll have access to Smartly’s full range of features including the employee app, timesheets, labour costing, Xero integration, automated payments and more. The difference is, when you choose DIY Payroll, you’re responsible for entering all of your payroll data into Smartly and checking that it’s correct. When you choose Managed Payroll, your dedicated account manager will work with you, and whatever systems you’re currently using, to make sure your data is entered correctly and payments are made on time.
Only you can decide which plan is best for your specific needs but here’s a few things to consider. If you don’t have many employees, your payroll is pretty simple, and/or you have someone who is comfortable processing payroll for you, then our simple software might be a good fit for your business. If you’re not confident in payroll compliance and legislation, there have been mistakes made in your payroll, or you’re struggling to find a qualified person to manage your payroll, it might be time to consider handing your payroll over to the experts on our Managed Payroll team.

Changing payroll providers can be daunting, but you can rest assured our onboarding specialists will help you every step of the way. Once you’re signed up with us, we’ll work with you to create a customised onboarding plan for your business. We’ll agree on all the important dates, such as the date of your first pay run and your training date (if applicable). Then depending on your onboarding plan, we may ask you to enter your information into a Smartly portal, to send through reports from your previous payroll provider, or to complete some authorisation forms for us to make payments on your behalf. You can expect to be up and running with Smartly between 3 and 15 business days after sign-up, depending on your business needs. Too easy!
